Description
The seat Belt Pretensioners (BPT) are installed at the lower part of the left and right center pillars and on the quarter pillars. When a front or side collision, or rollover accident occurs, the seat Belt Pretensioner (BPT) winds the seat belt and prevents the driver's and front passenger's body from being leaned forward and collided with the interior parts of the vehicle.Direct resistance measurement of the seat Belt Pretensioner (BPT) module is very dangerous as it can cause the seat Belt Pretensioner (BPT) to deploy.
Troubleshooting
Removal
• When working on the high voltage system, the work should be performed by technicians who have completed the relevant training. A lack of understanding of the high voltage system can lead to serious accidents due to electric shock or short circuit.
• When working on the high voltage system or related components, be sure to observe and be aware of the "Safety Precautions, Cautions and Warnings". If not, it may cause serious accidents due to electric shock or short circuit.
• When working on high voltage system, make sure to check the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and high voltage shut-off procedure.
Front Seat Belt Pretensioner (BPT)
After a collision, the seat belt system should be inspected to ensure it is operating normally. Replace any belts that are not functioning appropriately.
1.Disconnect the battery negative ( - ) terminal and the service interlock connector.(Refer to Battery Control System - "Auxiliary 12 V Battery - 2WD")(Refer to Battery Control System - "Auxiliary 12 V Battery - 4WD")
2.Remove the center pillar lower trim.(Refer to Body - "Center Pillar Trim")
3.Disconnect the seat Belt Pretensioner (BPT) connector (A).
4.Remove the seat Belt Pretensioner (BPT) (A) after removing the bolt.
Tightening torque :40.2 - 59.8 N·m (4.1 - 6.1 kgf·m, 29.7 - 44.1 lb·ft)
Rear Seat Belt Pretensioner (BPT)
After a collision, the seat belt system should be inspected to ensure it is operating normally. Replace any belts that are not functioning appropriately.
1.Remove the rear pillar trim.(Refer to Body - "Rear Pillar Trim")
2.After disconnecting the connector (A) and removing the bolt, and then remove the rear seat Belt Pretensioner (BPT) (B).
Tightening torque :40.2 - 59.8 N·m (4.1 - 6.1 kgf·m, 29.7 - 44.1 lb·ft)

1.Install in reverse order of removal.
Be sure to keep the torque specifications presented in shop manuals. Otherwise, it could lead to the malfunction of airbag system.
Inspection
Do not measure airbag module (ignition) circuit resistance even with the specified tester. If the circuit resistance is measured with a tester, the airbag deployment may cause serious injury.
1.Refer to the troubleshooting procedure for checking.
