Kia EV6: Brake pad

Replacement

Front brake pad

1.Remove the front wheel and tires.(Refer to Suspension System - "Wheel")

2.Open the front brake caliper body (A) upwards after removing the bolt.

Tightening torque :21.6 - 31.4 N·m (2.2 - 3.2 kgf·m, 15.9 - 23.1 lb·ft)

• When replacing the brake pad, replace all brake pad parts (pad, slider shim, pad inner shim) together.

• Note the direction when replacing the pad slider shim and inner pad inner shim.

• Make sure that the pad slider shim fits securely when replacing the pad slider shim.

• If the pad slider shim is deformed or not properly installed, the poor brake performance / drag / noise can occur.

• Be careful not to deform the return spring (A) of the pad slider shim(retraction part).

Rear brake pad

1.Release the parking brake by using the KDS.(Refer to Brake System - "Electric Parking Brake (EPB)")

2.Disconnect the battery negative ( - ) terminal and the service interlock connector.(Refer to Battery Control System - "Auxiliary 12 V Battery - 2WD")(Refer to Battery Control System - "Auxiliary 12 V Battery - 4WD")

3.Remove the rear wheel and tires.(Refer to Suspension System - "Wheel")

4.Disconnect the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) actuator connector (A).

Inspection

Brake Pad Check

1.Check brake pad thickness (A). If the thickness is thinner than the limit, replace the brake pads.

Front brake pad thicknessStandard : 11.0 mm (0.43 in.)Service limit : 17" Disc : 2.0 mm (0.07 in.) 18", 20" Disc : 3.0 mm (0.11 in.)

Rear brake disc pad thicknessStandard : 10.0 mm (0.393 in.)Service Limit : 2.0 mm (0.078 in.)

Installation

Front brake pad

1.Install in the reverse order of removal.

Kia EV6. Brake pad

• Observe the following precautions when installing the inner brake pads, incorrect installation may cause noise or compromise brake performance.- Make sure that the inner brake pad wear indicator (A) is facing up on the brake caliper.

Kia EV6. Brake pad

- Make sure that the inner brake pad L (LH caliper) or R (RH caliper) marks are facing up on the brake caliper.

• Be careful not to damage the piston when pressing it.

• Be careful not to interfere with the torque member when assembling the caliper body.

• Press the brake piston using SST (09581 - 11000) when installing the caliper body.

Kia EV6. Brake pad

2.Depress the brake pedal several times to ensure that the brake pads are correctly positioned, then check operation.
