Kia EV6: Precautions for accident vehicle

Precautions for accident vehicle

Kia EV6. Precautions for accident vehicle

The Electric Vehicle comes equipped with a high voltage battery that can cause serious injury, like electric shocks, or even death when malfunctioning or mishandled, so follow manual below.

Preparations when servicing the accident vehicle

1.Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)(Refer to High Voltage System General Safety Information and Caution - "Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)")

2.Boric Acid Power or Solution

3.ABC Extinguisher

4.Towel for cleaning electrolyte

5.Fire blacket

6.Vinyl tape (for insulating terminal)

7.Mega ohm tester (for checking high voltage)

Precautions when handling the vehicle after an accident

1.Before handling an accident vehicle, the technician has to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).(Refer to High Voltage System General Safety Information and Caution - "Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)")

2.Never touch the power cable from which the insulating coating has been peeled off.

3.If more than half of the vehicle is submerged, then do not go near the interlock connector or other high voltage related components. Move the vehicle with the help of a towing or salvage company to a safe location, then access the vehicle.

4.Since the gas is hydrogen and alkaline vapor, immediately ventilate the room and evacuate to a safe place.

5.If the leaked liquid comes in contact with skin, immediately cleanse the affected area with tap water or saline salt water, then get medical attention.

6.Refer to "High voltage cut-off procedure" if the high voltage needs to be cut off.(Refer to Battery Control System (Standard) - “High Voltage Shut-off Procedure”)

7.After the accident, it completely dried the water in the vehicle and check the high voltage battery sensor data (insulation resistance, voltage deviation between cells, DTCs, etc.) and internal damage, by wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).

8.When replacing the high voltage battery with a fine deformation, only the case is exchanged after checking the change in the high voltage battery sensor data.

9.Repair vehicle judging the accident type as below.

(1)Electrical acceident

• Over charging/discharging : Display the DTC code about battery low voltage (P0DE600) and over voltage (P0DE700). (refer to DTC guide)

• Short-Circuit : Display the DTC code about high voltage fuse open circuit (P1B7700, P1B2500). (refer to DTC guide)

(2)Fire accident

Type Repair Procedures Result Correction
Fire excepting near the high voltage battery
(Ex : Power Electric (PE) room)
1. Visual inspection (deformation, corrosion, wiring cover, odor, connector) Damaged the high voltage battery Insulation and packaging after removing the high voltage battery
2. Measure the high voltage battery insulation after shutting off the high voltage
(Refer to High Voltage Battery System - "Battery System Assembly (BSA) Inspection")
Breakdown the high voltage battery insulation
3. Inspection about high voltage battery main fuse open circuit
(Refer to High Voltage Battery Control System - "Main Fuse")

6. Check the DTC of Battery Management Unit (BMU) DTC occurred Repair following the the DTC guide

Kia EV6. Precautions for accident vehicle

• If the high voltage battery mounting area is inaccessible due to damage to the trunk and vehicle door, be sure not to damage the high voltage battery when deforming and cutting the exterior of the vehicle to perform the inspection and repair procedure.

• Do not replace the high voltage battery when DTC does not occur or the external of battery is normal. (However, if the vehicle is damaged to the level of a scrapped car, perform the high voltage battery disposal procedure.)

(4)flood accident

• If more than half of the vehicle is submerged, then do not go near the high voltage service interlock connector or other high voltage related components. Even though it is inevitable, move the vehicle to safe area before taking actions.

• Be Insulate and packing after removing the high voltage battery.
