Description
Side Airbag (SAB) module is installed on the left and right sides of the driver’s seat back and on the right side of the front passenger’s seat back, and protects the occupants in the event of a side collision or rollover accident. In the event of a side collision, the side impact sensors (SIS) installed one at the center of the left and right front door modules, the center pillar, and the left and right sides of the quarter panel detect the collision. Using the signal from this sensor, the SRS Control Module (SRSCM) determines whether the side airbags (SAB) are deployed or not. In addition, when a vehicle rollover accident occurs, the SRSCM detects the vehicle rollover accident and determines whether to deploy the side airbags (SAB).Direct resistance measurement of the airbag module is very dangerous as it can cause the airbag deployment.
Troubleshooting
Removal
• When working on the high voltage system, the work should be performed by technicians who have completed the relevant training. A lack of understanding of the high voltage system can lead to serious accidents due to electric shock or short circuit.
• When working on the high voltage system or related components, be sure to observe and be aware of the "Safety Precautions, Cautions and Warnings". If not, it may cause serious accidents due to electric shock or short circuit.
• When working on high voltage system, make sure to check the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and high voltage shut-off procedure.
[Standrad]
1.Disconnect the battery negative ( - ) terminal and the service interlock connector.(Refer to Battery Control System - "Auxiliary 12 V Battery - 2WD")(Refer to Battery Control System - "Auxiliary 12 V Battery - 4WD")
2.Remove the front seat back assembly from the front seat back frame.(Refer to Body - "Front Seat Back Cover")
When replacing the airbag due to a deployment of the airbag, replace the seat bag assembly.
3.Remove the Side Airbag (SAB) module from the seat back frame.
(1)Remove the Side Airbag (SAB) module nuts (A).
Tightening torque :5.9 - 7.8 N·m (0.6 - 0.8 kgf·m, 4.3 - 5.8 lb·ft, 52.1 - 69.4 lb·in)
(2)Remove the Side Airbag (SAB) module (A) after removing the wiring clips.

1.Install in reverse order of removal.
• Be sure to keep the torque specifications presented in shop manuals. Otherwise, it could lead to the malfunction of airbag system.
• Incorrect installation of the front seat back cover blocks the normal deployment of the Side Airbags (SAB), so make sure that the front seat back cover is properly installed.
• Connect the connector completely so that the lock makes the 'click' sound.
2.After installing the airbag module, check if the airbag system operates normally.
If IG is ON, the SRS indicator light should turn off after turning on for about 6 seconds.
