Control logic

Kia EV6. Vehicle Charge Management System (VCMS)

Kia EV6. Vehicle Charge Management System (VCMS)

* V2G (Vehicle to Grid) : It is the bidirectional charging/discharging sequence with standard-based charging communication and vehicle cooperation control.* V2L (Vehicle to Load) : It provides electric power (110 V / 220 V) indoor and outdoor the vehicle by converting the DC power of the high voltage battery into AC power.* V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) : Vehicle to vehicle communication (charging) function* PnC (Plug and Charge) : Charging can be done immediately without additional authentication / payment process.* PLC (Power Line Communication)* EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment)* OBC (On-Board Charger)

Composition

It consists of CMS and PCM. (Configure two CPUs on one control board)

• CMS (Charging Management System) : It controls cooperation with related controllers for charging, V2G, V2L, and convenience functions. (overall control of charging)

• PCM (Powerline Communication Module) : It controls charging/vehicle communication and security functions for PLC communication, PnC, and connectivity functions.

Troubleshooting

How to remedy when the fault code occurs

Kia EV6. Vehicle Charge Management System (VCMS)

Check the EVSE, combo charger inlet assembly, quick charge relay and related controller before replacing the Vehicle Charging Management System (VCMS).

Item Major Fault Code Suspected Cause Inspection
Vehicle Charge Management System
(VCMS)
• System over voltage and low voltage
• Control module (CPU) performance abnormal
• VCMS
• Auxiliary 12 V battery
• If the same fault occurs after performing the normal / quick charge, check the auxiliary 12 V battery and replace the VCMS
• Proximity Detection (PD) circuit fault • VCMS
• Check the wiring and connector between the combo charger inlet terminal and the VCMS
• Check the VCMS PD recognition circuit
• Wiring and connector fault between the combo charger inlet terminal and the VCMS
Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment
(EVSE)
• EVSE Control Pilot (CP) signal fault • EVSE • Check the VCMS CP recognition circuit if the same fault code occurs after performing the charge by using the Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment (EVSE) that operates normally
• EVSE communication failed
• Power Line Communication (PLC) signal fault
• EVSE
• VCMS
• Check and replace PLC communication module if the same fault code occurs after performing the charge by using the Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment (EVSE) that operates normally
Combo charger inlet • Charging port overheat
• Charging port temperature sensor fault
• Wiring and connectors between the LDC output terminal and the high voltage junction box • Inspect the charging port temperature sensor if the same fault code occurs after performing the charge by using the Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment (EVSE) that operates normally
• Inlet actuator fault
• Inlet position sensor fault
• Inlet actuator
• Inlet position sensor
• Check for lock/unlock via inlet actuator forced operation
Fail-Safe • Quick charge relay weld / performance abnormal • Quick charge relay
• Quick charge relay faulty wiring and connector connection
• Check the quick charge relay in the high voltage junction box

Removal

Kia EV6. Vehicle Charge Management System (VCMS)

• When working on high voltage system, the work should be performed by technicians who have completed the relevant training. A lack of understanding of the high voltage system can lead to serious accidents due to electric shock or electric leakage.

• When working on high voltage system or related components, make sure that you are familiar and comply with the "Safety Precautions, Cautions and Warnings." If you do not comply with the instructions, serious accidents due to electric shock or leakage may occur.

• When working on high voltage system, make sure to check the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and high voltage shut-off procedures.

Kia EV6. Vehicle Charge Management System (VCMS)

Check the EVSE, combo charger inlet assembly, quick charge relay and related controller before replacing the Vehicle Charging Management System (VCMS).

1.Shut off the high voltage circuit.(Refer to Battery Control System (Long Range) - "High Voltage Shut-off Procedures")

2.Remove the rear seat assembly.(Refer to Body - "Rear Seat Assembly")

3.Remove the right luggage side trim.(Refer to Body - "Luggage Side Trim")

4.Disconnect the Vehicle Charge Management System (VCMS) connector (A).
