Diagnosis with KDS
EPS Type Recognition
Since EPS can store various tuning maps with different steering feelings in the ECU and different steering feelings depending on the application area and the vehicle engine type, it is necessary to set codes appropriate for the application area and the vehicle. If missing the EPS type recognition, a problem may occur with motor-driven power steering performance.
EPS Type Recognition procedures
• Check if the battery voltage normal before perform EPS type recognition.
• Be careful not to disconnect any connectors while performing EPS type recognition.
• After EPS type recognition, turn off the vehicle, and then wait at least 20 seconds and restart to check for normal operation.
1.Connect the KDS to the vehicle.
2.Turn the IG ON.
3.Check the steering wheel and tires aligning straight.
Set the clockspring to neutral.(Recognition cannot be performed if the angle is more than 90 degrees from the neutral reference.)
4.Select the Vehicle and 'Motor Driven Power Steering' on the menu.
5.Select the 'EPS Type Recognition'.
6.Select the correct area and press OK.
7.Remove the DTC code.
8.Turn off the IG switch and wait for 20 seconds or more before starting the engine. And then make sure that MDPS works properly
SAS Calibration
– Steering angle and steering angle speed are used for damping control and restoring control in addition to the basic steering force.
SAS Calibration Procedures
• Check if the battery voltage is in normal using KDS before Steering Angle initializing (ASP calibration) procedure.
• Be careful not to disconnect any connectors from the vehicle or KDS while Steering angle initializing procedure.
• Once complete the Steering Initializing procedure, turn off the engine and wait at least 10 seconds. And IG ON and check if the system works in normal.
1.Connect the self-diagnosis connector (16 pins) located in the lower of driver side crash pad to KDS.
2.Turn the IG ON.
3.Check the steering wheel and tires aligning straight.
Set the clockspring to neutral.(Recognition cannot be performed if the angle is more than 90 degrees from the neutral reference.)
4.Select the "vehicle model" and "Brake" on the menu.
5.Select the "Steering Angle Sensor(SAS) Calibration" on the menu.
