Troubleshooting

On Vehicle Inspection

If there is a problem with the forward radar, check the items below.

1.Checking bumper cleanliness: If the bumper is contaminated with snow or dust, may be disable during operation.

2.Check the condition around the bumper: Warning lights may occur if metal stickers or foreign substances are attached to the radar.

3.Checking bumper geometry or mounting status: Warning lights may turn ON if bumper or radar is not properly installed after an accident.

4.Check the bumper, radar bracket, or radar when a fault code occurs.

• Bumper : Mounting state, bumper external deformation.

• Radar bracket : Mounting status, radar bracket deformation.

• Radar : Poor radar nut engagement, radar debris contamination.

Diagnostic Faults Using KDS

1.The Advanced driver assistance system driving can be more quickly diagnosed for problems by using the KDS (Refer to "DTC guide").

(1)Self diagnosis : Inspection and display failed code (DTC)

(2)Sensor data : Checks the system input / output values

(3)Forced operation : Checking the system operation condition

(4)Additional function : Controlling other features including system option setting and zero point adjustment

Removal

Kia EV6. Front Radar

• When working on high voltage system, the work should be carried by technicians who have completed the relevant training. A lack of understanding of the high voltage system can lead to serious accidents due to electric shock or electric leakage.

• When working a high voltage system, the technician must be observed and aware of "High Voltage System General Safety Information and Caution". If not, it may cause serious accidents such as electric shock or short circuit.

• When working on high voltage system, make sure to check the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and high voltage shut-off procedures.

1.Disconnect the battery negative ( - ) terminal and the service interlock connector.(Refer to Battery Control System - "Auxiliary 12 V Battery - 2WD")(Refer to Battery Control System - "Auxiliary 12 V Battery - 4WD")

2.Remove the front bumper assembly.(Refer to Body - "Front Bumper Assembly")

(4)Check the front radar vertical angle by using the digital inclinometer.

Kia EV6. Front Radar

Kia EV6. Front Radar

• Make sure to perform zero setting before using vertical protractor.

• Be careful with + / - readings when finding true vertical using vertical protractor.

(5)Adjust to "target vertical angle" by turning the adjusting screw (A) of the front radar.

– turn clockwise : adjusting ( + ) angle

– turn counterclockwise : adjusting ( - ) angle

Kia EV6. Front Radar

• Adjustment of the bracket can be applied using manual pressure.

• Must recheck with vertical protractor if vertical angle is right after adjusting.

Adjustment

Front radar installation angle checking / adjustment overview

The front radar detects the object in front of the vehicle, and recognizes the distance from the object, comparing speed, etc. for these reasons the direction of installation has to be linear with vehicle.Performing angle inspection and adjustment have to be done in case of the front radar repairs caused by accident or failure and replacement of a new front radar.Accuracy of the front radar cannot be guaranteed if inspection and adjustment have not been performed properly.Front radar inspection / calibration is performed using the KDS.Perform adjustment procedure with exclusive SST for front radar inspection / calibration.

Kia EV6. Front Radar

The front radar installation angle checking / adjustment are needed in the following cases.

• Front radar has been replaced

• Calibration failure DTC is present.

• In the case of a contact accident or a strong impact on the sensor or its periphery.

• Front radar detecting and recognition function failure.

– Failed to detect vehicle in front while functioning.

– Often detecting error of road side lane.

– Often detecting error of object when no objects are present.

How to check / adjust front radar installation angle - Stop mode

Kia EV6. Front Radar

• Check for vehicle alignment and tire pressure for accurate radar calibration.

• Put the vehicle on the level ground.

• Check that the front surface of the front radar is clean.

• Perform in an area with minimum clearance of 8 m (26.4 ft.) front, 4 m (13.2 ft.) sides, and 2 m (6.6 ft.) above the vehicle.

• The reflector has to be installed at same place (height and angle) as front radar center. (If height and angle are different, then adjustment can not be done correctly.)

• Remove objects (metal plates, resins, etc.) that may cause electric signal interference from the area where front radar alignment is performed.

• Be sure that the vehicle is not moved and free from vibration when performing front radar alignment (getting in / out or opening / closing doors).

• When performing front radar alignment, the ignition has to be in the ON position (not in Ready mode).

1.Park the vehicle on a flat ground.

Kia EV6. Front Radar

2.Mark the center point of emblem (A).

Kia EV6. Front Radar

3.Mark the center point (A) after measuring the distance on top of the windshield glass.
